Hi all,

Thought I would show some pictures of my en-suite bathroom I completed. Took me from October 09 to Christmas eve 09 (weekend working as I have a full time job through the week). Major brownie points from the missus for completing before Christmas.

I did everything apart from skimming the ceiling.

I think the biggest success is the travertine tiles, although they were a nightmare to do (the missus was very good at tiling as she has more patience and eye for detail than I do).

Thanks to everyone that helped me with my queries on here whilst I was working on it.

Very nice job.

On a practical note, how do you find the basin to use? It looks a little high, can imagine having to reach my arms over the sides of it to get into the water.

Hi Steve,

The basin is quite high, luckily the wife is 6ft!

Practically I wouldn't recommend it for a main bathroom. Especially for kids using it etc.

Ideal for en-suite though and we needed the storage space because we ripped out the cupboard. I liked the style as well.

I always make a point of keeping the top of the unit dry otherwise water damage could occur. I also had to fully seal the interface between the bottom of the sink and the top of the unit as I found water was sitting in the gap underneath which wouldn't have been good for the wood.

Cheers

I did have thoughts along this line, didnt wanna p**s on your bonfire too much though  ;)

I love the tiles.
TBH I love the whole revamp, well done. It is what I would like to do in the loft eventually when I put a double and single bedroom up there with a shower room to share.
If you dont mind me asking what was your budget for this?

Thanks nij,

We managed to save money in places.
The tiles were £400 from Travertine direct - don't be put off by ordering them online because they are much cheaper, they send you samples and are delivered on a secure pallet (not a single one was cracked).
Sink incl solid oak unit and tap was £250 from Home Furtiture Land
Triton Shower £200 from Screwfix
Toilet £100 from Screwfix
Heated towel rad £80 from Screwfix
Mira shower tray £200 from Screwfix
Glass shower screen £130 from ebay
Flooring £70 from Floors to go (incl membrane)
Spotlights £30 from an online lighting specialist (can't remember name)
Vanity unit £60 from B&Q.
I had to pay a plasterer £40 to skim the ceiling as this is the only thing I can't do.
Budget around £300 for skirting, plasterboard and floorboards
Lots of other bits and bobs such as chrome tile strips, shaver socket, towel rad valves, wiring, copper piping & bends etc. Overall I reckon £2k plus alot of blood sweat and tears.

Weren't you a little worried about the weight of those tiles on that wall though? I'm cowardly you see :)
