Ending inequality in UK

Would that be a cash wealth or total wealth including property ? Most people would love £35k.
As jonbey has mentioned, it is based on GDP

But my figure differs slightly because of also taking into account the overall wealth minus the debts.

When the duke of westminster died his family avoided almost all inheritance tax.
They made a 'saving' of approximately £3.5bn
(and there are many more 'super rich' who do the same thing)

The total inheritance tax collection for the whole of the UK in the year he died was £5.4bn
(most of which came from middle class families with overpriced family homes as the main wealth source)

Which certainly puts inequality into perspective!

I was told the other day, that if you rent a property out for 105 days a year (say via airbnb) and make less than 12k per year, you can avoid council tax all together. You do have to take care of your bin waste though.

Just think if they lived near each other. The twenty tower block families would look out of their window and have a magnificent view of the Dukes estate and home while all the poor Duke could see from his window would be a rotten block of flats. Of course he should pay less!

As you say, Bernard, the Duke of Westminster should pay the same amount of tax that you do.

And vice-versa.
He’s dead at present the good old duke. Left it all to his son. I wonder what the inheritance tax return was?

There’s a whole raft of tax rules for Rental holiday homes. I think you’re getting confused with income tax - if it’s your ONLY source of income you pay no tax on the first £11,850 you earn. Also, you don’t pay council tax but you do have to pay business rates. More info here. https://www.willerby.com/furnished-holiday-let-tax-guide

Are you telling me that I could buy two houses for 35 grand
Probably less..Indeed.Loads of people do it...Come up from down south with their camper van,to collect the rent..

That's not good. Is there
resentment?
Just looked at estate agent...yip..quick look..2 bed tce .15k.No resentment really ..no shortage of them..Average tenant becoming more of a pain and i am a bit out of the loop now since i dont do as many repairs for the landlords

That's the trouble with socialism. Eventually they run out of other people's money. :ROFLMAO:

Socialism can never work, certainly not in a global economy.

Unfortunately in our 2 party system, we have this tribal politics, so anybody that doesnt agree with Tory neo liberalism must be a raving socialist.....which is clear in this thread.

the reality is that there is real poverty in this country and the safety net has been removed for people -that needs to be corrected, its about wanting a fairer society, not a socialist one.

I feel Corbyn and the Labour activists became involved in the politics of envy, that is wrong, if people become rich through hard work and ambition, then they should be allowed to keep wealth as long as they are taxed fairly.

Would the Tory supporters here agree that a fairer society is something this country should have?

socialism.

A multi-purpose word with numerous meanings.

RW Americans like to call a public health system "socialised healthcare."

They don't like being asked if they object to socialised roads, a socialised fire service, or a socialised police force.

The concept of a Friendly Society, or a Funeral Club, or a co-op, includes members chipping in for the benefit of the community, and being able to draw on it in times of need. Many groups, churches, unions, guilds and regiments have a benevolent fund. Even an Insurance Mutual works on similar principles.

I'm sure Regan will tell us that the Papermaker's Guild cannot possibly survive, nor can the Holloway Society nor the Farmers' Mutual. Nor can the London Fire Brigade. There are no Masonic schools. There cannot possibly be Christian communities. Nor Kibbutzim.

Regan talks a lot of nonsense.

Short answer.Yes I have no problem with that.In reality, books could and have been written about it.Your idea of fair differs to mine...Some are born rich, some destitute, most in between. Same with intelligence, health, etc etc...Can debate it forever...You do seem to lean to some sort of system of 1 school system, share out wealth by robbing the rich until they do not exist..Equal wealth for all whether they are workaholics or layabouts.genius or thick....Where is the ""fair"" in that?

Socialism can never work, certainly not in a global economy.
While not disagreeing with the rest of your comments, well not violently, anyway.
Does not China, Russia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and lots of other 'single party'/'socialist' states not participate very successfully in the global economy?

I don't think that 'socialism' means some sort of fairer society, (which is what you said) and that wealth is not shared out equally in such 'socialist' countries.
