Energy saving bulbs & time switches

I've been reading the topic on time switches
But not the dates on posts....

The timer switches I am familiar with replace the light switch and only the positive feed is available and no neutral.
There's only a positive there for half the time. The other half of the time there's a negative.

No I don't know why either. But the suppliers of these time switches do state that the minimum wattage required to make the timer work is 40 watts and they are referring to a single bulb.
Maybe they find that's an easy way to stop the great unwashed from using CFLs and LEDs and then complaining.

Best solution is to take a neutral to the switch and use a timer which does not rely on a current path through the lamp.

Thank you, RF Yorkshire. I will try this because if all fails I could put some of the LEDs elsewhere. Thank you to everyone who contributed and hopefully I'll be back in a few weeks with the results.
