Energy saving downlight covering

Hey all,

This is my first time posting here so hello to everyone and I hope you are all well. This is kind of electrics related - but apologies if I have the wrong category.

I've installed 10 energy saving downlights in to an upstairs room so I've used the loft to get the job done. It's quite an old house and the insulation is horrible so I've removed some as I've been going with the intention of replacing it all.

Even though the downlights do not get anywhere near as hot as the normal 50W downlights, I would still like to cover them all before re-insulating and I suspect this might be a requirement anyway.

Other than using the relatively expensive fire hoods (which cost more than the downlights), can anyone recommend an alternative which is fit for purpose?

You could build a plasterboard box over each light and then fit the insulation over that.

or (better)

find a light that properly will light the room (like the one you removed) and have the ceiling replastered.

10 lights for one room?

Why didn't the fact that you need 10 tell you that you've chosen lights which aren't actually any good at lighting up rooms?
