Hi,
60's house, concrete slab floor with two layers of ancient vinyl tiles. Bottom layer probably original, glued with something black and very sticky (bitumen?). Used to have underlay and fitted carpet on top of that lot.
Apart from gaining a few mm of room height, is there any good reason to take off the old tiles, or should I just put the new floor right on top? It's 30sqm foor, so not a huge job to lift the tiles.
If I lay down right on top of the old tiles, would I need the DPM layer, or would those tiles work like a DPM? The foam underlay I've got for the new floor claims to work like a DPM if you tape the seams. Not entirely convinced, and anyway, tape with what? Gaffer tape?
