England council results

Starmers speech sounds like a party in opposition pitching to become the government. Pointing out all the current government failures.
He’s moving to the left to see off the Burn ham/Rainer partnership. He’s better than the alternatives within and outside his party. Andy’s day will come when the next general election is lost.

What i find amazing is that the Labour party want Starmer to move to the left, at a time when more and more of their traditional voters are moving to the right.

I really don't see 'more Europe' being popular with a significant number of voters that aren't already labour supporters, so it's a policy directed at winning over MP's rather than the electorate.

I think Starmer won't survive this. I'd like to think Wes Streeting or Shabana Mahmood would end up as PM. God help us if Miliband or Raynor end up getting the job.

Starmer made a big mistake bringing back Gordon Brown.
He is associated with Blair.
Farage has the same problem, allowing in deadbeat Tories involved in the last administration make Reform look like turquoise Tories rather than something new and radical.

It’s about the party membership and the perceived threat from the Rainer wing but also the Greens. It was a leadership speech without the contest. They would be mad to get rid of him before 29

Sadly he needed the talent and experience of people who had served in government- says it all

I heard Beth from sky news - she made a good point
After labour lost both the Hartlepool by-election and council seats in 2021.Sir Starmer said he considered quitting as Labour leader and he said ---
I didn’t feel like I should be bigger than the party.

Well hasn’t that stage now been reached with his refusal to go.

It wasn’t bigger because it was local elections only

Wow this is incredible, having only been born yesterday this is all news to me, is this how the world really works, i am astounded. Thanks so much for educating me.
How is Starmer doing he made some strange decisions, almost like he was forced to do them... How is Mandy doing?
So you're ok with getting rid of a corrupt PM and replacing him with a more corrupt PM?

Burnam’s main focus is on getting back in Parliament not becoming leader. Stammer has now opened that door. There’s no point in him taking over and then losing the election. In the meantime he can’t make a difference to world events which are outside his control.
