GCSE's out, baccalaureate in. Same old, same old - it'll start off with the best intentions, show an initial dip to demonstrate how "rigorous" it is and then curiously enough more and more will pass it. All because governments all want to make it look like money has been wisely invested in edoocashun, and they inexorably ensure that the stats reflect this.

Wonder how long before it gets changed again? GCSE's lasted nigh on 30 years.

2015 apparently.
Strange how they have only just finishe "consultations" about A-level courses. One would have thought (naively no doubt) that universities would have a say in the 16-18 curriculum, which would then have a trickle down effect on the the 14-16 curriculum. As it is, the whole lot seems as though it is all going to be lobbed in together without any real proper planning and forethought.

In the words of Craig Revel Horwood - it's an absolute disaaaaaaaaster waiting to happen

One hopes that the curriculum will actually be written by then

well I managed 11 O'levels so maybe i can help
That depends on whether they focus on the things which you covered, or pick some new areas to look at and expect a new and different set of hoops to jump through.

Another curiousity is how they intend to examine these - it may well come unto pass that they will only allow exam boards to set certain exams. Eg - Edexcel does English, AQA does Maths, OCR does science etc etc

yes the way they teach now seems very different. Better or worse I really don't know. Science seems to me very poor, and ICT is ridiculous.

Who knows? Teachers are told how to teach via the requirements of Ofsted, and many of those who are involved in this little setup are failed practitioners themselves. FYO the main fella who runs the inspection team gets in the region of £800 plus expenses per day; and that's one huge wage that desperately needs to be justified

Doomed to fail. Need two exams like the old O level and CSE.
