I know this'll sound corny but my gran baked the finest treacle tarts i ever tasted. Her s.crust pastry was a work of art: light, buttery and melt-in-your-mouth moreish. She'd put sultanas in the Golden Syrup to make it extra deelish. Haven't tasted anything like 'em in over 40 years but the memory lingers, like a first kiss.

Had the best Sunday roast for a long time yesterday at the Horse and Hounds Tavistock rd on Dartmoor, wife had beef, beutifull, pink moist with loads of flavour, I had Pork with loverly crisp crackling, with all the trimmings, cauli cheese, crispy roast spuds, home made stuffing sweede/carrot mash and green beens, and a really tasty gravy, all cooked to perfection and served by two young smilling Devon girls, all washed down with a couple of pints of Jail ale, treacle tart and clotted cream to finnish, beat any of that foreign muck !

Sounds good but I haven't tried it.

It's an Eastern European thing, mainly Czech Republic - but lots of other EE countries have their own versions. Romanians call their equivalent Palinka.

Quite strong, but couple of shots keeps out the chill of their harsh winters. (y)

When I stayed with friends in South Africa some years ago, they had several plum trees in their garden. When the plums were ready, they got someone in to pick them and put them through their still to make plum spirit. Not sure if this is legal or not, but it's quite common if you have lots of fruit that will go to waste or only be made into jam.

The wifes cousin made a similar thing I think using pears. He soaked them in brandy for weeks. Tight git wouldn't let me try it though

Babybel is better than the Crying Cow shoite. Waste of feckin milk, that!

Foxes seemed to like them. (y)

I'm very boring with my cheese choices. Extra mature Cheddar and goats cheese are about all I will eat. Maybe some soft cheese with chives, herbs, etc. Certainly none of that strong foreign stuff, like Stilton. :ROFLMAO:

Stilton

I don't mind some of the speciality cheeses like the one with cranberries in though.
