I have a tiny loft hatch which I can barely get my shoulders through and which is right where the pitch of the roof meets the floor/ceiling. I want to seal it up and cut a new one in a more convenient place. Whilst I have no real qualms about hacking my way through the joists and putting this in, I just wonder whether there is anything I should be considering from a structural perspective, or whether I can go ahead and do this.

i'm no builder or structural engineer, but i think you should be ok so long as you fit 'trimmers' to where you will cut the joist.. see here
