Evening,

I know the rule Of thumb is cutting three joists for a
Loft hatch would I get away with cutting four obviously I’d be doubling trimmers with joist hangers and doubling up joists around the hatch… just getting ready to fit my loft window but I can’t get it up unless I cut 4 or carry it through the opening on the roof which I’m not doing lol . There isn’t anything structural the joists are currently
Resting on!
Thanks
Jake

Could you cut a slot in the ceiling, between the rafters of he correct length?
The joists may not be resting on anything structural, but they are likely still tying your roof structure together.
A slotted ceiling may be a simpler repair.
