I know what you mean, just thinking in the old days of 3 layer of roofing felt with bitumen is approximately over 10mm, getting thinner now but as you say it should do the job like an umbrella!, is it just one layer? I suppose it's the adhesive make all the difference
As someone else has revisited this thread, I meant diff. between epdm roofing and epdm pond liner.
My mate has an old pond liner in his garage that he's never used. Looking at it, it looks like decent quality stuff, and is only about 1.2mm thick.
It cost him £50 for a 12'x10' single piece. Now imagine you had to do a roof that size, can you see what I'm getting at? Compared to the price of 'proper' epdm roofing?
In many industries, it's not uncommon for the same product to be sold at different prices depending on the application, epdm liners are probably old news to fish fans, whereas it's a relatively 'new' product for roofing, which can mean a nice little earner for someone installing this 'new hi-tec' product.
I import this stuff and believe me when i say this but it really is taking off in the uk. The firestone pondliner isnt uv stable so may perish in future years. the roofing grade however will last in excess of 50 years. we have a contractor network across the uk who can give quotes.
epdm stands for ethlene proplene dienne monomer. basically a synthetic rubber made for roofing. hope this helps
