Just seen a quote from another firm for a consumer unit change - apparently they will also install "Equal Power Bonding" too!

English was not their first language then.

But you get the gist of it.

However, they ought to use the correct terminology.

Was the quote a decent price?

It was a larger company, and I would say it is a "lost in translation" type of thing with whoever typed it. Perhaps they couldn't read the scrawl and guessed.

A pretty typical price for around these parts.

That makes sense.

Although, to prevent yourself as a company looking a bit of an idiot, if I were typing up the quote, I'd have belled the geezer that did it and clarified what he wrote before sending it out!

It is a good way to annoy other electricians who might get hold of your quotes - just make up your own set of terminology, and then they will have to explain what it means

I have seen examples of this. I went to a house where they had a new board to fix a fault, I notice there was not any main bonding and asked if I could see the EIC for the board and it was ticked as being there and 10mm in size, ther was also a Star next to the rn and a note to say that the downstairs ring had an O/C neutral.

I tried to explain that this was so wrong - and left them with a quote for fixing it - they were a friend of a friend and I heard a few months later from
said friend that they did not know who to believe me or the other bloke. They thought I might be fabricating work. I have a photo of the IEC if anyone is interested...

What amazes me is the the blurb on their website is the most holier than thou stuff that you could ever imagine. But in writing I have a IEC saying that they put a board on a faulty ring!!

And did you report them to their scheme organiser and to Trading Standards?

Nether are interested in complains from third parties. Try calling either of them and asking if you can complain about a contract that you were not involved in.

Fine.

Then write to them recorded delivery, and tell them that you have clear evidence of criminal and dangerous acts perpetrated by someone within their jurisdiction, and ask them to explain why they will not investigate.
