The Passenger side front brake will not work on my P reg Ford Escort. The pad is ok and we have bled the fluid and checked that the fluid is flowing ok which it is, but the brake still will not pull on. We have checked and it is not seized. Any ideas anyone, apart from a big hammer!

If it's all there and you say it's not siezed and you're getting fluid then it sounds like it's working. Unless when you say it's not siezed you mean it's free on the slides but the piston could still be siezed.

We are taking it apart again tomorrow to have another look. We will look at the piston. It's got everyone baffled, my husband that has renewed brakes on every make and model of car he has ever had, and a trained Mechanic that we met at the scrap yard - we were looking for a new caliper to see if that made any difference and guess what no Escorts in the scrap yard - can you believe that!
Will keep posting to say how we get on. It looks like I might have to have a new (secondhand) car. That is why my husband wants desperately to fix the one that I have got.

It shouldn't be baffling, check to see that the piston and slides aren't siezed and let us know how you get on.

Have taken it apart completely piston and slides look perfect no rust or anything. Not siezed. Husband putting back together to try them again to see if it has made any difference.
Will let you know what happens later.

Embarrasing, the brake problem is actually my fault. When we bled them last week I was told to push down on the brake until it reached the floor. Well I did but I had to stand on it to get it to go down all the way, had to push so hard I pulled a muscle in my leg.
Well yesterday, bled the brakes again but this time 80+ year old mother in law pushing the brake, it won't go down she says so therefore there is a pipe blocked. This will now have to be looked at next weekend.
Please understand that some of us down here in Shropshire still go around wearing smocks and have ears of corn in our mouths, well my husband does!
Thanks for showing an interest though, it is nice to know there are people out there willing to help someone with a problem.
I have never used a forum before.

There's something not right here. In your first post you said, "we have bled the fluid and checked that the fluid is flowing ok which it is."
In you last post you said, " it won't go down she says so therefore there is a pipe blocked".
It's all a bit confusing. Have a look at some of the clips in the link, it might help.

hi, There was some fluid coming out when I pressed but apparantely not enough but we will check all hoses and clips next. Has to be at the weekend when we are not working.

You don't really need much coming out and as long as it's fluid and not air then there's no problem.
