Hi Folks,
Hopefully moving into an old Grade II listed house this year. Currently at the planning/budgeting/despairing stage!
The house will need a full rewire. We don't want to do this until we've figured out what we want/need in terms of kitchen, bathrooms, heating, etc. etc. It currently has an old CU and I've no idea (yet) on exactly how old the rest of the installation is.

Its likely we may get an EV car this year too, and so we'll need some way to charge at home (other than trailing a 13amp socket across the drive and waiting for 35hours.)

Would an installer be able/allowed to install a new circuit/CU/something from the meter tails, splitting off from the main fuse before it feeds into the existing CU, without having to fix/upgrade/replace the existing installation? i.e. installing just the new circuit and any necessary protection just for the EV charging solution?

Much will depend on the Royle commission, and what they allow, the listing of buildings is often limited to certain sections, and the whim of the inspector, so you have both the electrical side and the listing side to consider, my daughter use to work in Liverpool and she would talk about the buildings visited, and how in some cases it was only the type of floor they were interested in, or the view from the outside, so being able to do any work, is down to why it has been listed.

Some buildings the only option is to wire with mineral insulated cables, this is rather specialist work, I did it in collage, and never again, so to answer questions it would need an on site visit, and a lot more information.
