I've seen pictures and descriptions of jobs that looked okYour idea would probably work if the guy can do what he says he can do up to a reasonable standard....And if he can’t yer goosed pal
I couldn't instruct or teach him but could objectively find out what he is good at and focus on thatOnly you know the guy, nobody is going to be able to tell you if hes teachable or not, and only you know if you are prepared to redo things if its done wrong while not supervising, and prepared for that cost.
When i choose a builder for the home, if they can start in a day or 2 then they need to have a good reason why, otherwise we have to wait a few weeks, In fact around october getting our electrician back to finish the next room on a full re-wire took 8 weeks !!! and to do a cloakroom, asking in August i was quoted by most of the builders we use, November at the earliest possibly later. So did it myself.there's a shortage of good builders where I live, they are all seemingly booked up working towards London and anybody local is busy as anything
Yes I agreeWhen i choose a builder for the home, if they can start in a day or 2 then they need to have a good reason why, otherwise we have to wait a few weeks, In fact around october getting our electrician back to finish the next room on a full re-wire took 8 weeks !!! and to do a cloakroom, asking in August i was quoted by most of the builders we use, November at the earliest possibly later. So did it myself.
It is one of the signs of a good builder , unless a job fell through or just starting out on own
so what was his incorrect answer?I researched the question on how to plaster the inside exterior kitchen wall of this 100 year old house with solid brick walls and no cavity and got the correct answer from the community here but he gave the wrong answer when I asked him.
So you need to book them in NOW really. Also if you already have some builders in mind, thn also ask them , even if busy a gap can appear, jobs dont get agreed, budgets change, planning issues, weatherI can wait a few weeks or a month but not more than that
To use waterproof/damp proof plasterboard straight onto the brickwork with no cavityso what was his incorrect answer?
I'll start phoning around at the beginning of JanSo you need to book them in NOW really. Also if you already have some builders in mind, thn also ask them , even if busy a gap can appear, jobs dont get agreed, budgets change, planning issues, weather they may have a gap Once you have a few builders you can trust, then make sure you keep them on the books for any future jobs. I have done this with a building team, and got them to quote for about 10 jobs I wanted to do in the year, then i know when ready I can talk to them to get booked in
But from all your other post, of you want to get into the game, a good learning process and you need to look at all the mistakes and understand the root cause to avoid next time, most people dont look at the root cause , just the symptoms and never really learn. Good to make mistakes, just don't make the same mistake twice. From a normal building job point of view it's been a total disaster due to the amount of time it's taken
