Extend cable to a lamp

I need to make the flex to the lamp in the photo longer so it can reach the nearest socket without using an extension cable.

The main halogen bulb is rated at 300w.

If anyone is familiar with this type of lamp is it possible to rewire it with a longer flex or is there going to have to be a join somewhere external to the lamp?

You may be able to rewire the lamp, however it is likely that the flex is soldered or crimped in the switch, so you would require the appropriate tools to do this.

with some of that style of uplighter there is a recess in the base that might accomodate a small flex connector so the join could be hidden
