I need to extend a 2m joist out to 3m, and I need to support an internal block wall approx 50cm in. So in effect the wall needs supporting by the 'extended' part of the joist. Here's a diagram:
I plan to Insert 2x 3m timbers (220x47) either side of the existing joist with one end of each butting up against left-hand wall, the other end of each resting on right-hand wall. I've no doubt this will be strong enough to support the wall above, since the wall is supported on single joists elsewhere along its length, but how should I connect the new joists to the old? How many bolts and what size/spacing is generally used?
Thanks!
