As I and others have said, it is definitely not notifiable (in England). Whilst any electrical work (whether notifiable or not) theoretically requires some sort of certificate to be issued in order to be compliant with BS7671 (you theoretically could issue an EIC or MWC yourself), there is no compulsion for anyone to keep such a certificate, so you could honestly say that you didn't have one. The main problem is that (as others have implied) to be properly B7671 compliant (and to enable a certificate to be completed) will usually require tests to be undertaken which very few DIYers will be equipped and/or skilled to undertake - but, again, that's not something that a buyer's solicitor would normally ask about.

My only concern is that I made the extention by means of a block inside a back box. I couldn't find a chockbox small enough to fit inside but I reckon that the fact that there's obviously something there (with an earth fly) and the fact that it's metal actually gives it a good level of protection. If you know of a chockbox that would fit inside a single socket back box then please let me know.

What you've done sounds fine, and is the usual way to do it. The connector block within the back box requires no additional protection.
