Extortionate quotes for replacement boiler........

the guy im doing my gas safe with charged £1300 all in last week supply and fit a pro 29 including changing 12m of 15mm gas pipe to 22 and an extra rad we had it done in 3 hours

I can picture the quality of the job.... In fact I have seen the quality of some of the work round Bratford where the price has been pushed down and down.

Before I met her, my young lady had a boiler fitted by a local installer who undercut the other quotes, I spent a day putting it all right..

In Cheshire, I believe in charging a reasonable amount for a good quality job with a five year guarantee...

cheeky cheeky whilst the prices have been pushed down in most areas of the country. and here, the fact remains that when you price a job and get it irrespective of the price you have to do a good and safe job. some of us tradesmen in yorkshire have morals and consiences

LOL... I'm sorry, but £1300 is far too cheap.. If it came to that, I'd do another line of work... To me bricking up the old flue properly, matching the mortar as far as I can, plastering the wall before fitting the new boiler is all part of the job.... Not to mention flushing, magnaclean (Though I have been looking at the spiroclean thingy) I nearly always fit a new pump and motorised valves unless they are clearly new already... Some would say that this is OTT but I like to be as sure as I can be that my customers only see me once a year for servicing

was a straight swap for an older vaillant. we powerflushed it and used a cleanser and inhibitor it had no external pumps or zone valves just a wireless stat and as i said took 3 hours with the materials coming in at 790 and like i said two men 3 hours think about it we not greedy

thats not a powerflush and in 3 hours thats not a good job. It might look it on the face but its not, its not possible.

oh and by the way we werent competing with a price it was the first price they had it was one of my existing customers who calls me for everything such is the quality of my work and the best value

boiler took one hour to fit power flushed it for nearly an hour and it took an hour to cleanse and inhibit bearing in mind there are two people who know what they are doing its quite easy to be done in 3 hrs

Instead of insulting the OP or picking his comments to pieces why not just explain how they got to that price, and give your trade some credibility.

I don't think its unreasonable to ask if a price is fair or the going rate as a way of finding if someone is ripping you off or not, anyone who is hostile to such questions immediately gets me suspicious,

But the OP did not politely ask if the BG price was reasonable or not!

He starts by calling them EXTORTIONATE just in the heading !

He has later apologised for going over the top but thats how he started.

Its not surprising that BG prices are going to be higher. They have overheads, shareholders and send someone to look at complaints.

Their complaints people are not always polite and nor do they always give their names as when I advised a householder that BG had not sleeved the gas pipe where it entered the building as required under the regulations.

But as he refused to give me his name, I was unable to complain about him !

rogue trader says it all lol full system was power flushed 3 days prior to fitting by someone else who said that was the prob as to why the heating wasnt workin at a cost to the customer of £320 so bearing this in mind the next time i go to a pensioners house who has already been ripped off i will charge £3500 for a boiler and will ask the wife to man the phones as my complaints department full time or do you not think that charging a fair price and giving a 3 yr guarantee is reasonable enough

I think that we should all thank BG they set the benchmark price by which we all undercut by a percentage, left to ourselves we would all be fitting boilers for cost plus 50 quid....

I believe that you said that you did all of this customers work and he chose you on the quality of work that you had done for him in the past, so why did he get another fellow in to diagnose his dodgy boiler?

If people weren't greedy, then we would all be communists

bg and all the other national suppliers just massively overprice and rely on customer support as banks do when they charge an extortionate amount of interest on loans whereas you can go elsewhere and get them at less than half the apr
