Hello,

I have a very old kitchen extractor fan which I would like to replace. The current unit extracts via an air brick. It's ducted properly and it looks to have a 5" round to air brick converter on the inside of the wall (no gas in the kitchen and there are other vents).

I would like to install a gravity closing grille with flaps on the outside to reduce insects and drafts but the only ones I can see would mean removing the current air brick as they don't sit flush. The Air Brick is approx 9" by 8".

Am i on the right path here please / could anybody recommend something I should look at or should I just leave the brick open?

Thank you.

The problem with the louvred/gravity closing type of vent hoods (normally plastic), is they break, high winds see to that and sometimes quite quickly, have a look around, unless its new it probably broken. So if you could replace the air brick with a vent block with an internal baffle of some sort, failing that fit a metal wire mesh protector over a plastic louvre/gravity type...pinenot :)
