I had a new kitchen fitted last year and the new hotpoint hob extractor I had fitted is a real pain, it has two 40w lights and every time the bulb blows it takes the PC board aswell.I have had two new pc boards fitted under guarantee and two months ago hotpoint replaced the whole unit for a new one, then last night the bulb blew and the pc board has gone again thus being unable to turn the light function on or off!!!

Has anyone any idea why this keeps happening I have given up on hotpoint they are worse than useless.

Try expensive bulbs (lamps) with a fuse in them. Osram or GE.

Are they 12 volt lamps?

Can you measure your supply voltage?
