can anyone advise me. I am trying to instal a new extractor fan as the old xpelair was really noisy. The wires coming out the wall are yellow, yellow/green, blue, and red. I have isolated the yellow, and connected up the others to the relevant places on the new fan and there's nothing happening !! Any ideas ?

I think you have probably connected the earth to the switched live terminal
