Dear Experts,

Here is the inside of a 3-foot-thick stone wall, from which I’ve removed the plasterboard. The vent from a bathroom extractor was boxed in to a hole through the wall at the top left; you can see the hose dangling:

Looking at the hole, it seems that a first attempt to core drill from the inside was abandoned. The hose was tucked into the upper hole, which is just a dark void in this picture:

After removing much debris and poking my phone into the upper hole, this is what I saw:

Note how the core drill has removed portions of two joists!

I have two concerns. Firstly, should I worry about the partially-unsupported joists? Should I make some effort to support them? I do not see any evidence of movement.

Secondly, when I rebuild I’d like the pipe to extend to the air brick at the external wall rather than discharging moist air into the masonry and timber, but because of the height of the hole relative to my ceiling I have no chance of inserting a length of rigid 110mm pipe. Any ideas?

Thanks, Phil.
