I have some face engineering bricks left over on a job ,can I use these for a brick pier carrying a steel , are they the same Newton? , I should know this but don't ! Many thanks

Engineering bricks are engineering bricks whatever they are used for.
The actual strength in N per sq mm varies depending on the class of brick, but the supplier should be able to give you the manufacturers' quoted strength. Unless your pier is unusually slender, any type of engineering brick will be suitable.
