x - why are you face nailing your maple ... is it plain edge stuff? Or is it the last couple of rows of your tongue & groove and you can't get the floor nailer in position 'cos of the wall?

yes its the last couple boards and fist couple boards cant get the portanailer in to possision

x - use one of these: a surface nailer

designed for use tight to wall.

Sometimes, even these can't get to where you want to nail, so we use a 15g brad nailer, shooting the brads at opposite angles in pairs to resist lift.
