FACOM tools

Well, I've just bought some new FACOM combi ratchet spanners, as my old socket / spanner set is well, shall we say a bit rubbish. Has anyone any opinions on these? Are they OK, or have I wasted my money? I can't / don't need Snap on tools, and I've heard that Brittool tools aren't what they used to be?

Have never used FACOM stuff but find it amusing that you do exactly what I do, buy something THEN look for the reviews!

Well I did a bit of research, but I've never used them, but they can't be worse than my existing stuff, which has a max damage to hand torque setting.

They should see you alright. They have a lifetime guarantee.
Im always dubious of putting lots of torque on ratchet mechanisms, if you can use a proper ring spanner if you come across something very very tight...

Once youve spent out on decent tools, its worth taking a few mins to look after and clean them after use. ;)

Thanks for that, mostly they'll be used on push bikes, so not massive amounts of torque required, plus I got them at around a 60% RRP discount. Good old ebay, lets just hope they're geniune

Oh, and I'll get some proper rings as well, thank you for the advice, it is appreciated.

Thankfully Facom is one of the few companies left that do not appear to have sold out to China. Their tools are very high quality and probably on par with Snap-On.

Britool Tools is a part of the Facom tool group. While the designs have changed over the years, I've seen no evidence that the quality of Britool has diminished at all. In my own experience the new designs are equally good, but with improved ergonomics.

Fair enough, I'll certainly consider them in the future, thanks for the heads up.

I've finally got round to it, nearly 4 years after I originally broached the subject on DIYNOT

I know this thread is ancient! However, does anyone know if Facom tools still have a lifetime guarantee and how to make a warranty claim?

My Google Fu failed me regarding Facom’s warranty.

Which says that hand tools have a lifetime warranty if not abused, but it doesn't cover wear and tear.

I guess that latter exemption allows them to get out of many claims...

Facom tools are comparable in quality to other mid-range engineer's tools such as Stahwihle, Hazet, etc. Not quite as well finished as Snap-On, Proto or Belzer are/were but still better than a lot of Chinese stuff. My ratchet and basic 1/2in socket set are Facom brand and I'm happy enough with them, although as a wood butcher I am hardly a daily trade user of such tools

Some of their products are incredibly expensive though

eg

That is £769, but admittedly a specialist tool.

A small socket set, covering 12 different bolt sizes is £735

Someone has to make CuBe tools - they are used extensively in the oil and gas production and exploration sectors because they are non-sparking and pretty much as hard as steel. The go to name in Europe at one time was Belzer

Britool, facom, Stanley, Mac tools, black and decker, DeWalt (maybe some others ) are all owned by Stanley tools.

Facom are the elite tools brand, stupendously expensive and not stocked at a great deal of places

Mac tools are sold to garages on a snap on esque van. And are equivalent to snap on in quality ( though many say snap on have reduced the quality of their tools of late)

Britool are still of good quality but the range is some what deminished nowadays, the quality is on par with
Halfords professional.lack of development under the Stanley black and decker management, like many great companies bought out by big conglomerates they will eventually fade
