Hi,

Is it allowed under Part P regs to mount a fan isolator and unswitched fused spur in a bathroom if it's away from sink/shower and mounted 2 meters up on a wall i.e. in zone 3?

Is it also ok to connect this to the ring main rather than lighting circuit as the lighting circuit is bordering on maximum load.

I've seen this done in one house by a supposed qualified electrician, I've also seen it in commercial properties but obviously they don't need to adhere to Part P.

Thanks.

Away from shower & 2m up is not necessrily Z3.

You're in Z2 next to the bath until a height of 2.25m, above which Z3 starts.

As for zone number around the sink, that depends where it is situated.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I've measured and can locate the stuff above 2.25 meters, the shower is over 2.4 meters away on the horizontal.

Just one last question, what is the best way to connect, from the 30amp ring to the fan isolator and then the FCU (fitted with 3amp fuse) or to bring it down to 3amp via the FCU and then to the isolator?

3amp via the FCU and then to the isolator. Most fan isolators aren't rated to 32A.
