My mother had one of these installed in December. I was there when they commissioned it and it seemed OK at the time. I went to visit her again last week and noticed that there was a deep vibration when the fan starts up. This wasn't constant, only a momentary effect at a certain fan speed as it speeded up. But when the boiler modulated back to that same speed range, the vibration was continual. It seems to originate from the fan area, but vibrates right through the structure, you can feel it even with one hand on the flue. Because she is very deaf she hadn't realised there was a fault.
I got the installers back, they agreed it was not right but said they would need to get the WB service engineer to take a look. He came last Monday, I wasn't there, but he tinkered with it, muttered something to her about a 'design fault' that he would mention in his report, and left without leaving any paperwork or explaining what he had done or if any further work was required.
She now tells me there is a continual vibration from it...
I called the installers again and their response was to ask me to call WB back myself, and that they do not see the service reports produced by WB. I told them that as far as I was concerned our contract was with them, not WB, and it was their responsibility to sort this out, regardless of whether it is a manufacturing or installation fault. Eventually they agreed and the WB engineer is going back next week.
Does anyone know of any inherent problem with this boiler and should I be doing anything else please?

if combustion is out they can be noisy so maybe not set up from the factory which sometimes happens

So would this not be the first thing that the WB engineer would have checked? What I don't understand is that it was originally only at one fan speed? Now he's 'adjusted' it it does it all the time!

after adjusting it he may have left the pcb set on the wrong setting. when setting the combustion you set the boiler to run at maximum, set the combustion, then set it to minimum and set the combustion, then go back to max and so on until both are within range. the engineer probably left it set to max or min rather than turning it back to its standard operating position.

The fans on WB greenstars have a little rubber flap (a non return valve type thing) that can break off and get stuck in the fan and cause it to vibrate,

Seen lots but usually its after they are a few years old.

The internal vent requires the case to be removed and should not be a DIY job.......Lord Elpus....

Especially with such a retarded case design.

Surely this is advice for an RGI and not for a DIYer owner?

In any case any RGI should know where to find that information.

It seems a totally inappropriate posting!

Worcester have a very good reputation for service backup.

So it is rather unexpected that they will have apparently have not identified the problem, not left any service record and apparently left it worse than it was when they arrived!
