I've recently experienced multiple boiler faults/breakdowns - luckily I have a maintenance contract - but after several suspect components were replaced without success I was advised to replace the FCU serving the system.

Having done this I still find that the boiler runs normally for about 20 minutes and cuts-out.

One thing I did notice when removing the old FCU was that the neutral on the load side (N - out) had in fact been connected to the supply side (N - in). So, both supply and load neutrals share the same connection.

Whilst the heating system had been running normally prior to the recent boiler problems - and with the neutral connections as decribed above - is there any likelihood that this could cause sensitive items, e.g. circuit boards to react and bring about a shut-down? The pcb was replaced about a year ago with an upgraded version - thinking this was faulty it was replaced again without success.

Sounds like clutching at straws to me.
However, fix the neutral wiring and keep persevering with the faults until they accidentally discover the "real" fault.
