Hi all, a neibour had some of the above fencing erected but the feather edge was not lapped just butted up together. I told him this was wrong a that they should've lapped by 1/2 inch and he said he wasn't worried but I said in the heat of the sun the thin edge could curl although It was nailed down. Was I right in saying this? Thanks for your time!

if they have nailed both the thick and the thin edge, all the boards will split in dry weather. The overlap is to hold the thin edge down while allowing it to move slightly.

Your neighbour has suffered from an incompetent cowboy.
