I currently have a fence across the front of the house that secures access to one side and rear of the property. The other side is a narrow passageway with a proper secure gate.

I want to replace, what is a very rotten dilapidated, arris rail and featheredge board construction with something that I can remove, but that looks premanent.

I think that I'd like to make a 3m closeboard panel with a hinge to aid opening.

I was thinking that 3 arris rails would be sufficient, but is there any way that I can help with stabilising the panel with diagonal braces or would flat timber (rather than arris rail) improve the rigidity?

That will be a very heavy and awkward thing to move. Could you perhaps hinge it at one side and add a wheel to support it at the far end?

Two at 1.5 metres will be much easier. Use hook and band hinges.

You can make a braced wooden gate and clad it with fence boards

arris rails are not suitable as it will only be supported on one side.

The gate post needs to be well supported or it will lean. A diagonal from the top, to the bottom of the next post, will be best

I agree about the jockey wheels but you will need a smooth and level surface for them to run on.
