hi when i drive my fiesta its a scary time for me, when i pull away it shudders really bad or putting my foot down pulling away it just revs with no action, im driving at say 30 and i will go to put my foot down a little to gain a bit of speed and the thing will just change gear with lots of revs an no action! this also happens on hills which is scary because i slow right down! i have found that when doing about 30 quickly putting it into L then feeling it jerk quick then putting it in drive selects the right gear for me! its ok on motorways as it selects the right gears then, it just pulling away, going up and pulling away up hills is the major problem! please help, and im not a car expert so please dont confuse me with jargon thanks

p.s this is so annoying lol

but my car is an automatic, is there some kind of clutch in the auto box then??

There is no clutch.

What year is the Fiesta? I remember from my time with Ford around 1995-1999 that we had awful trouble with new Fiesta & Escort Auto's jerking and lurching. If I remember rightly they had the CTX auto box fitted? I think I left before Ford had published a fix for the fault.

I wonder if the Kick Down switch or Auto Box ECU is faulty?
As you press you foot sharply down on the accelerator, the switch should tell the auto box ECU to change down, whilst raising the revs.

Sounds like your revs are increasing, but the gearbox is not changing down properly.

You may need a visit to your local dealership to diagnose

it all confuses me lol its a 1996 mk3 fiesta on a n plate, what it does is dont pull away with kangerooin and basicly plays up all the time.
does it need a whole new gearbox?

sounds like the box is on its last legs. the pump and valve block fail on them with alarming regularity. Recon box or a fix from a reputable transmission specialist will probably be needed

we used to charge iro £1000 to rebuild box a few years ago.

p.s. in my experience they don't get any better, they usually just loose drive completely. sorry to sound depressing but you may as well be prepaired for it just to stop i.e. carry a mobile phone.

Sorry fiesta runner I missed the Auto  No clutch in an Automatic.
It could be a number of things. Cheeper in the long run to get a recon box, or a second hand one. Mabe you should think about changing your car, it might be cheeper in the long run.

thanks for all your advice peeps, would it be simple enough then just to get myself a manual gearbox and bolt it on and put a clutch pedal in? my mums bf thinks all we need to do is get a man gearbox n clutch bolt it all on and thats it! is this th case?

Not that simple at all.

1. Mk 3 Fiesta's have a hydraulic clutch rather than cable operated. Runs from the same master cylinder as the brakes. You would therefore need a new master cylinder, all the relevant pipework and slave cylinder & pedal

2. Flywheel on the engine may be different and may be unable to bolt on a clutch?

3.Will your current engine management ECU work with a manual box

As well as a clutch, manual gearbox, master cylinder, slave cylinder & pedal you will also need gear linkage, gear lever, gearbox mountings. Its gonna cost way more than a recon Auto Box and be a total headache.

thanks cj, think i will just have to save for a recon box then. God i only had the car two days and i cant believe i need to sort it out already :(
