I have been studding out my downstairs hall in preparation to fit 90mm celotex in-between for insulation as there is no cavity.

As the walls are quite a bit out i have a gap from the brickwork to the back of the stud work of about 25mm to 50 mm in places, i thought it would be a good idea to fill the gaps with expanding foam for added insulation but i am not too sure if this is the right thing to do.

1: it may bridge the gap between the cold outside wall and the timber and make the timber cold ??
2: it would stop the air movement between the studs again i think this may not be very good ?

What is your view on this ?
Thanks

Foam insulates, so will not make timber cold

You want to minimise air and air movement between your insulation and cold wall, so filling gaps is exactly what you should be doing
