Filling gap between breeze block and timber joist

Hi,

I have a garage where the wooden joists are resting on the top of the breeze blocks, and there are also blocks between the joists. There are gaps between the timber and the blocks, which were originally filled with mortar, but in most places these have fallen out, leaving a gap as per the images below.

What could be used to fill these gaps? I was thinking of expanding foam, but first wanted to ask before I do something which turns out not to be the right thing.

Thanks,

Tibor

Expanding foam will be fine, buy a gun and you will be able to do a much neater job than trying to use a can with the plastic straw attached

If exposed, in an open garage, foam will degrade over time. Not a big issue, but still not ideal. Also can look a bit crap unfinished.

A better repair would be mortar and when it's fully dry a flexible mastic around the joists, including the bottom.
