I've moved into a property and after an unfortunate encounter with a very large and fast moving arachnids, I've discovered there's a gap in the bathroom that needs filling.

I think unwanted guests are coming through the gap. What's the quickest and easiest way to fill it? Would expanding foam do the job and be safe to use around a soil pipe?

Using a propriety filler, e.g. Polyfilla, which can be sanded smooth when dry. Expanding foam will do the job but may be more awkward to trim up in that situation. If you can, fill with expanding foam, so the stuff is shy of the surface by 1/2 inch or so and make good with filler.
