Hello,

We had some rewiring done and new sockets put in, I used patching plaster to fill around the new sockets and where the wires were chased into the walls, with a thin layer of jointing compound on top to get it nice and smooth.

That all worked fine, but the last wall (about 9cm thick) has double sockets on either side of it and there's a hole showing through. I've added some pics here (hopefully!).

What's the best way to fill up the hole? Thanks in advance for any help!

You could use just about any available or left over powder to fill in and bring up to skimming depth.
Or, you could go and get a small bag of "repair" plaster from a builders or plumbers supplies.
Are you OK with finishing?

The horizontal cable ( a spur? ) in photo's 1&2 needs some metal capping - as a protection; it should have come up like the cables in photo 3.

Use bonding with a bit of cement in, will firm up nice then you can skim it....

At least until it disappears into the wall, it's in a horizontal line from a visible accessory and therefore in the 'safe zone'

What a complete bodge artist. Is that the best he could do? Why didn't he 'make good' himself? Surely he could have got the sockets level?

I wouldn't have paid him a penny for that mess.

Funny, i was thinking exactly the same.

Owain,
Point taken, but horizontal routing is very rare practice - perhaps in kitchens - and the Regs. say "covering to prevent damage" is req'd.
Metal capping is a bare minimum, esp with two nasty screw points within mm's.
I'd route horizontal cable in say, steel conduit or SWA. which our OP may not be aware of or have access to.

AAMOI: a few years ago an MP's daughter was killed by some dodgy, uncovered routing in a kitchen.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll go get some bonding and use a bit of cement with it then.

I think I may have some unused spare metal capping that was left behind in my old house so I'll cover up the cables anyway just to be extra safe.

I think these sockets are more of a mess than the others in the house as there were loads of old sockets there that had to be taken out, including a couple of those old fashioned small sockets just for lamps.
