I have been using these flyers to get work. Putting them through doors and on shop windows. Are they any good? My mum used someone from the Internet, is this recommended? How about a professional email address as well instead of Hotmail address?

I did a load of flyers once, when I was desperate and had no choice, got a couple of jobs out of it and some of those have lead to others and I still get the odd job on the back of those links, some 8 years on. But then I had nothing better to do with my time at that moment so it made sense in my situation. Get a facebook page up and running with some good photos and update it regularly and join some local facebook selling/trading sites and ask customers to leave a review. None of that costs a penny except your time in the evenings. Adding a landline and address to your flyers/cards will add some comfort to potential customers.

you could join nextdoor then offer your services. Dont spam people just provide advice and say you can do X Y Z where asked.

https://nextdoor.co.uk/

After that, get a website -use a pre formatted template one, then add your business details to some free online directories.

The key is to target specific key words that people search for and offer specific services.

If you clean gutters, say I clean gutters in XYZ town, a semi costs £x.

There is a lot of work available for handyman services for small jobs that qualified tradesman dont want to do. Try getting a plumber out to repair leaking tap.

People dont know where to go or how much, so the more you can target with specifics the more. chance you have of connection.

If you like doing small jobs only, say I specialize in doing these jobs...... in these towns or area... at this price.

We use a local guy that had a editorial in one of those small A5 booklets. He made a point of say I only do small jobs that take no more than a day or so. That way I can be available at short notice to help with any small jobs you require. He agrees a price before starting, carries an invoice booklet with him and takes payment when he finishes.

Leaflet drops round our way are so saturated that people are quite resistant to such forms of direct marketing now.

Leafleats usually go straight in the recycling without even a second glance. I would suggest social media. Facebook promotions are good like 10% off when quoting whatever you put on Facebook or a like or share then that persons friends see your business also.

Put an email address on the flyers.

Hotmail/gmail is totally fine as long as it’s not something stupid.

I suggest having a ‘real’ website, not just a facebook page. (Not everyone has or likes Facebook.). Again using a free provider for that is absolutely fine. Keep It Simple. Get someone to check your spelling and grammar - the flyers are fine but it’s easy to slip up. Either keep it constantly updated or make it timeless - anything except “here are some photos of my latest project, July 1997”.
