Fine filter for Oak

I’m looking for a coloured fine wood filler for English oak. I’ve got a couple of small gaps where I jointed up two boards to make a worktop.

Years ago I used to have sticks of various brown shades which felt sort of waxy.

Recommendations please?

You can use a neutral wood filler and colour it to suit .

You can mix acrylic paints into 2 pack filler to match the colour, but on the balance of probability, it will crack in time as the oak expands and contracts.

You can used coloured wax sticks and polish them flat. I do not know how water tight they will be though.

Alternatively, the likes of Unika sell coloured waterbased caulks (primarily used for flooring). They will shrink back slightly.

Mapai make a massive colour range of silicone sealants. The silicone is like to repel any finish that you apply though.

Jenkins make a celulose base liquid that you can add sawdust (from your timber) to. It goes off really quickly and can be sanded shortly after. I have no idea if it will deal with the timber movements.

Yes, looks very similar to what I had but much smaller. Thanks would never have thought about Toolstation.

trouble is with the wax sticks, they dont accept a stain or oil afterwards, so they are best used after the finish is applied

saw dust and glue can work, but keep the top layer almost dry - use animal glue instead of PVA, it won't turn so dark or crack as easily

It had just crossed my mind as to whether it would take a polyurethane finish.
