Fire extinguisher for gas cooker

Hi

Can anyone advise of the most suitable type of fire extinguisher for a gas cooker in a small kitchen in a 2 bed flat.

My gas cooker is made almost completly of fire retardent materials.
If yours is made of wood or some other flammable material I would get a new one!

probably more effective on something like a chip pan fire than an extinguisher, and no maintenance checks.

On the can it says for "gaseous fires, if no risk of explosion" !!!

Do a google search of " fighting kitchen fires" & you will see several options, it does not appear as straightforward as you may think.

Fat fires are the most common cause in kitchens , so a fire blanket is the most appropriate , it also protects you as you move towards fire.

As a trainer in fire safety I have some simple advise:

You don't need a "Gas" extinguisher just know where the Gas shut off valve is

Fire Blankets are a waste of time

Buy a "kidde" branded fire extinguisher fire from B&Q for about £15 you need a Class A, B, C, (these are the different types of fire it will put out) Ideally if you see a number next to the "A" even better the higher the number the more it will put out normal range is from 5-13
