I have had a granite back panel and hearth fitted and the front of the back panel is exactly 3 inches from the wall. Just bought a surround and went to fit it and there is a gap of around 1.3 inches between the surround and the panel.

I though surrounds were either 1 inch or 3 inches!! If I take the rebate sats out, there is a gaol, if I put them in, the surround does not fit.

I either have to move the back pane back about 2 inches (which means removing and re cementing) or butcher the slats by about 2 inches...

Confused...

Failing to plan = planning to fail.

Why on earth would you fit the back panel before sourcing the surround?. What idiot told you there are only 2 variables?

Confused...........

Well, at the time I did not know what surround I wanted so I figured it would be reasonably safe since there should only be either a 1 inch or 3 inch rebates. Little did I know...

Well, thanks for the constructive response though, it really helps...

Didn't realise you were asking for answers - you didn't ask a question. You merely stated the cock up and the options to rectify.

Did the installer not point out that it was a daft idea?
