Hi everyone

Just need a bit I'd advice fitting a Fernox TF1 filter to my boiler pipework. My boiler is in a kitchen cupboards atm, so access to pipework is very limited. I can fit it to the feed side of the central heating as there is a clear run of horizontal pipework to work with although it does say it's best to fit to the return side of the pipework.

I've enclosed a pic if my boiler setup. Any advice from you fine people would be very appreciated!

Cheers

Not a great setup to be fair for a filter as you have a rad or two branching off more or less directly after the boiler and the filter needs to be in between boiler and all rads to be fully effective.

To fit on the flow or return will require a bit of pipework alteration so you might as well do it properly and fit it to the return.

If you elbow in on the 22mm return between the boiler and first tee to the radiator you should have enough room to bring the filter forward and in front of the pipework.

Shouldn't be too hard a job.

You see, this is what I love above this forum. The expertise!

Jon, your a star! You are correct. Just before the return goes into the boiler, there's a T from one rad in the hall. You are also correct that if I'm modifying the pipework, I may as well do it properly.

What I now plan to do, thanks to your advice, is basically move the T on the return to below the wooden shelf in the pic (the shelf has the marble effect on it in the pic) and this should now give me plenty of room below the boiler and the shelf to put the filter in the correct place, on the return, after ALL rads.

Do you think doing it this way will be OK?

Thanks again!

Sounds OK to me. Just ensure there is plenty of room above the filter to remove it to clean the magnet.

Another option would be to utilise the space on the right of the boiler, right hand side of the flow pipe and extend the return to here and pipe up the filter there. That would make access for servicing so much easier, adding additives, no cutting of shelves and everything to hand. Just a thought.

Depending on your skill set would depend on how far you went. I myself would just repipe the lot but then I couldn't keep looking at that and I like to see pretty pipework.

Hi Jon

The only thing that's putting me off putting it beside the boiler on the right is that spanner access would be near impossible to tighten up the connections. Apart from that, it's a good shout!
