hello,
this is my first post so be gentle. x
well we have a exsisting gas fire that needs attention to the workings , but a friend who had the same fire had her living room redesigned and gave us the exact fire in working order.
but we have since asked a gas engineer to take out the old one and fit the other one , but he said he wasnt allowed to do that.
any help would be very much appriciated.
many thanks

might be that he hasn't got the qualification to work on gas fires.

There is no problem with fitting a s/h fire as long as you have te MI's and that the installer is qualified for fires and is tested in accordance with the regulations.

oh yes manifacturers instruction . oh yes ive got those from the exsisting one. many thanks

sorry to put my teacher comment on this (as i'm sure it will be fine) but you need to make sure your fire is exactly the same as the "new" one, there can be updates on models where a test procedure might be slightly different, the gas guy will suss that in 2 mins (depending on the fire you might be able to access it) what you need is the silver data badge of the "new fire" look for the GC No: ?? ??? ?? if the number matches the GC number in your MI's then it will be absolutely safe as your gas guy will fit the fire and confirm all is well, just remember the new fire looks ok but safety checks can only be done after the fire is fitted and if they fail the fire will need to be binned (remember the gas guy will still need paying even if he fits then bins the fire, he is saving your family remember)

Also, if the fire does not have an ODS, then new fire being a retrofit, is not allowed.

Kirkgas, would it not make more sense to fit a fire with ODS if fire was to be replaced? I thought for retrofit it had to be one fitted with ODS. I know it is a regulation to have a fire with this pilot assembly if fitted in a bedroom.

But then again, how many bedrooms have fires these days?
