fitting an extractor 6 floors up

Hi My sister wants me to fit an extractor in the bathroom and kitchen, to extract to the outside but she lives on the 6th floor. What is the best way to achieve this?

They would not be near enough to the window to reach from inside the flat to fit the outside grill which is a bit of a dangerous way to do it any way.

Surely installers dont get scaffolding setup for the 10 minute job of fitting the outside grill. I used to be building services so quite capable of fitting it, but I have never had to install one of these so high up before.

Any guidance appreciated.

Look for an extractor fan with a 'tower block vent / grille kit'

It all attaches from the inside, and could almost have been designed for your very scenario

Seriously though, I had seen (somewhere) a 4" pipe with a special end that you could poke thru a hole from the inside.
If I remember it was spotted in B&Q (damn, I'll have to now go and wash my hands...)

has a grommety flangey bit on the end to seal the hole up.cut it to length and push it through

Cheers guys that was quickest answers I ever had, and so many, brilliant. I thought there may be something like that but everywhere I looked so far didn't appear to sell anything like that. I will now look further, even in B&Q.

P.S Any tips on the drilling bit? I was going to use a 4" core bit but don't want to give anyone a headache below with bits of concrete, ie how do you drill and keep the cut out falling out?

ive never dropped one actually.i do get a labourer to stand down there though,obviously i give him a shout when its about to go through.lay a ladder down there so people have to walk round and get someone to stand down there.there will be so much brick inside the bit when it goes through that physics says it wont fall,however,sometimes it breaks up when you pull the drill out so take care with that bit

Cheers for all the answers, another thought, if this is on the 6th floor do you think I need a back draft shutter in the pipework, ie maybe a bit windy up there?

Look for the EFT Easy Fit Kit - 90427AA £20 ish..

Backdraft shutter a good idea if the pipe hasnt got a baffle.
Some fans have a shutter built in that opens when the fan comes on.

you can get grilles that fold in half to pass through the vent, then spring open and are secured with a couple of circlip type straps..
