Hi,

I am going to fit an extractor fan in the bathroom. The light circuit for it consists of 6 low-voltage downlighters, running from 2 transformers linked into the main lighting circuit.

Can I take the supply for the extractor fan from this link, or do I need to run it from the light switch?

Many thanks

It depends on how it's wired, if you wire to the lights then the fan will only operate when the lights are switched on. If you want a timed run on fan you need to also pick up a permanent live feed from somewhere. A fan isolator switch is also recommended.
Also, depending on where it's going it may need to be on RCD. Also need check your lighting ckt is supplementary bonded.

Thankfully, as you are in Scotland Part P doesn't apply.

Thanks very much for the detailed reply and link.

I might just get someone in to do it, to be on the safe side :)
