Hi Guys

My wife and i are becoming foster carers and one of the many things they have asked us to do is fit a proper lock to our medicine cabinet, the problem i have is the whole front is glass(no frame) and the main cabinet is stainless steel. I have no objections to drilling through the side of the cabinet butam at a loss on the type of lock i could use. Below is a pic so you can see my problem-

There're many type of childproof locks by doing away with the handle you have now.

Adults can press the button to turn the handle as needed

or my favourite type are the magnetic handle

A special magnet is pressed inward on the outside of the door to release the lock

If you type in childproof locks in google, plenty there to give you some idea.

i would have thought assuming this cupboard is several feet up
the sort off childproof fridge catch as high as possible would do the trick
you can get them from mothercare

or a hook and eye that can screw in at high level

or even something that hinges over the top and holds the top off the door

The trouble is they have asked for it to be key lockable due to teenagers trying a possible OD, not too sure what the options might be.

Can you not fit a cabinet lock using the handle hole for the key acting as a handle to pull it open?

Don't have much choice under this rules and regulations, my wife was a ex-childminder and the rules what we have to do to our property is unbelievable.

could you not relocate the"dangerous"contents to another location like locked in your bedroom or another cabinet!!!!!!

I've worked in a number of "secure" environments, and typically substances open to abuse are locked in a cabinet, within a locked room - to which only the carers have access to.

It would be cheaper to replace the cabinet with a purpose made medicine cabinet/safe.
