I've got a few of these drain reducers to fit

I'm trying to fit 40mm waste into them, but if I push any harder I'm worried I'll split the rubber seal.

Am I doing this wrong? Should the seal be trimmed to allow 40mm pipes through, or just apply pipe lube?

Thanks

Washing up liquid, unless you want to splash on the specific lubricant (I use aquaflow and a tub has lasted me 10 years).
Curiosity: why don't you use solvent weld?
Permanent seal and rat-proof

I have some Polypipe lube left from doing the underground drains, so will pop a bit of that around it.

Not using solvent weld? Plumbing naivety - it's far from my specialist subject, and someone recommended I use these fittings. If you know of a better item please let me know... I need 4 similar setups and haven't bought the final 2 yet.

Thanks

You'll find that same adaptor in pvc rather than rubber.
Have a look in a builders merchant or upvc store.
