fitting monobloc to thick worktop

Hi....I've bought a monobloc for my kitchen. Everything connects up OK, but the stud at the bottom of the tap is not long enough to protrude through the thick slate worktop, so I can't screw it in position. Any ideas?

Does the stud unscrew (it should ) ?
you can buy 3/8 stud in foot lengths and cut it.
Is it 3/8 iron thread ?
