Hi Guys....
I’m a new member to the forum and am looking for some help if possible with a wiring problem I have, I am in the process for modernising my new property. The house has been completely rewired just before we moved in a few months ago, I am about to replace the kitchen and would like to install fire rated GU10 down lighter’s in the ceiling, the room is 18ft x 10ft and we would like to put in 20 of the GU10’s, 8 down each side and 2 on each end, I would like to ask if anyone could give me a few tips, I was thinking of replacing the old lighting rose with a 20amp junction box and fitting the lights on a daisy chain, I am concerned about the amount of lights im am thinking of fitting and the best way to go about it......

You are crazy to choose downlights. 20 downlights at 50watts is the same energy as a single bar fire. That's 1000watts to light a room that is presently lit by a single pendant.

A 1000watt lighting circuit will need it's own dedicated feed from the consumer unit.

Even then you'd need additional lights to illuminate the worktops.

Your best solution would fluorescent fittings and there are some very stylish ones around.

PS. IMO fitting downlights won't modernise the space. It's sooo last century!!

There must be more efficient ways to heat a room - don't you think ;)
