Hi all,

If I'm fitting oak skirting, and I screw and plug them, does this mean that I'll have to finish them after they're on the wall? I'm guessing that the process is:

1. Cut the boards to size
2. Sand and stain the boards
3. Drill the screw holes
4. Screw the boards to the wall
5. Cut the plugs from similarly-patterned and stained board offcuts
6. Glue in the plugs
7. Sand the plugs flush
8. Apply varnish / oil to whole board

Is that right?

Thanks all,

Russ :)

You could finish them if using oil , then fit and plug, cut of plug with a flush saw to minimise sanding as that may mark surrounding area.

Personally, I'd cut the boards to size,
Sand the boards,
Drill the screw holes
Fix to wall,
Plug the screw holes,
Re-sand,
Stain,
Varnish/ Oil,
Go to pub,
Enjoy.
;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
