Fitting Strip Light

Hello all,

I am having a problem getting a new strip light working in my house. Now, the existing Unit I am sure has been up for over 20 years (As the previous owners have plastered the ceiling around the fitting) and thought it would of been a simple swapping of wires. Long story short, after removing the old strip light and fitting the new one - nothing happens....

I noted where the previous wires were secured into on the previous light and matched it on the new (Live, Neutral etc) and just can't work out where I've went wrong.

There is a dodgy looking join of red wires that seem to be taped together, should this be put into a block and taped again? (I suppose if its been like that for 20 years, it'll be ok - or a disaster waiting to happen)

How many wires are there, & what colours are they

In the light what colour wires did you connect to the L, N & E Terminal

I've included pictures below just incase you didn't see (Crap pictures though)

Right, well the Green is wired into the middle terminal. Then there were 2 Black/Blue wires that were allready twisted together from the previous fitting, so assumed that they fitted into the Neutral terminal. And then there was a thicker insulated wire, that was in the Brown terminal in previous fitting, so took that as the live.

I take it if it was wired incorrectly (i.e. The wrong way round) it would of tripped the fuse when turned on?

So you have 2 Blacks in the N terminal, the Green/Yellows in the E, & a Red in the L, this sounds right

With the taped together reds, untape them put them in a terminal block, & tape the terminal block up, & try the light.

Well the 2 reds were like this for the old unit so I assume its not this that's causing the unit not to work. I'll fit the wires to the terminal block just to be correct though!
